Wall School House Or Drop

Seth Thomas short drop clock, "Bradford", ca 1922.

8 day, time only, movement. Note this clock winds at 6 and No. 371 winds at 5. "Old Oak" case is roughly 20 inches long, dial is 9 inches. The case and dial are near perfect. Apparently a plaque or advertising of some sort was tacked to the drop portion of the case, as some tiny holes are evident. Easily corrected if they bother you. 8 day, time only movement, all in excellent condition. Same reference as above.

Seth Thomas "Bradford", ca 1922, a wall short drop model

Many businesses used this model for advertising purposes, like this clock that has a painted silver ad for "Taylor's Jewelers". The "Old Oak" case is about 20 inches long, and generally in good condition with only minor nicks expected on a clock this old. Everything is original and in good working order.A regular manicure might have prevented Bubba from scratching the dial between the 1 and 2. This model was made in several case and dial sizes, this one with a 9 inches dial. 8 day, time only movement, is running properly. Ly-Seth Thomas, vol. 3, No. 1143.

Winterhalter and Hoffmeyer miniature short drop.

The 8 day, time only movement is the early bird cage type, heavy wood plates, brass wheels in latter style. The back wood plate is stamped, WandH". A very interesting case, one we have never encountered. In some ways has a cuckoo flavor the way the back plate is attached and the inside of the case. Bottom trap door lets down to access the pendulum. One side door to look inside to see if the movement is still there. Octagon top held to case body with 4 metal pins, English style. All the case parts are stamped "VIIII".

Seth Thomas, "10 Inch Drop Octagon", ca 1912.

The number "12" is stamped on the back of the case, I say it was made 1912. This clock was made in several styles and sizes, this one in old oak, polished, in near perfect original condition, standing 22.5 inches high. 10 inches painted metal dial still with original paint. Compared to other Seth Thomas dials this old, I will call it near perfect. Has an original set of hands, old pendulum, and brass bezel, knob, etc. are all excellent. The movement is 8 day, time only, and runs up a storm. Since there is no strike you can put it in the guest bedroom.

Wm. L. Gilbert wall clock, "Circle Drop", ca1900.

Wm. L. Gilbert wall clock, "Circle Drop", ca1900. 32 inches walnut case has carved top, base, and ears below the round bezel. Right ear broken in one place, repaired. Original or old glass (all the putty gone), and original dial has been professionally repainted. Almost a complete label on the back, original pendulum. 8 day movement is time only. Ly-Gilbert No. 369.

Anglo-American scroll bottom, short drop wall clock.

Case made in English style, held together with wood pegs, front elaborately inlaid with differing shades of wood. Minor veneer loss. Front is beautifully polished to a sheen. 28 inches mahogany and walnut wood case. Carved side wings are both sound and unbroken. Heavy bezel with an original glass over the old zinc painted dial. Dial paint has held remarkably well, no chips. The American 8 day movement by E. Ingraham is original. It strikes a cathedral gong, and is clean and running.

H. Sperry, New York, was selling dealer of this oversized wall regulator.

The mahogany veneered case is 64 inches high and the lift up bezel is 30 inches wide. The wood grain is outstanding and the case overall is in very fine condition. There are some veneer chips on the left edge of the bezel that we did not attempt to disguise with stain or fillers. The case is so big it is hard to get it thru a doorway without banging the edges. The chips are not a big distraction, but if you want the clock to look near perfect you may want to cover them with stain, filler, or both. There is part of a label on the back which identifies the clock maker-seller.

New Haven Clock Co. roll bottom short drop, made for the English market.

During the 1850's thru 1870's, New Haven sold a large number of clocks in England thru their own sales and thru the American Clock Company that they were affiliated with. This style clock was poplar in England and few if any were marketed in the US. Like many clocks made in England the top bezel, dial, etc. is held to the case body with 4 pegs. This case has been refinished to perfection and the dial has new paper. Mahogany veneered case is 27 inches long, lots of string inlay, round wood pieces inlaid, carved wings on the sides, and carved piece in the bottom door.
