Shelf Balloon

C.1913, Seth Thomas Clock Co., Thomaston, Conn., "Parma" , 8-day time and strike mantel clock.

Condition: Refinished mahogany case with inlay in generally good condition with a little damage on the edge of case near two o'clock and a small chip on the edge near 12 o'clock. Hands are original. Original porcelain dial has chips at the right side winding hole. Movement and dial are signed. Overall good condition, clean and running. Ht 12" [30.4 cm]

C.1860, Scottish, Single Fusee Balloon timepiece, large with a painted regulator dial with separate seconds, minutes and hours, and with the inscription "The Ivory, Dundee". A family of clock makers named Ivory worked in Dundee from 1730 onwards.

Condition: the mahogany case has been refinished. The dial has been touched up a bit at the dial feet where the base paint chipped away. The well made fusee movement, now with a brass cable, has also maintaining power, Graham design dead beat escapement (with a repair to one pallet), and end stops for all of the arbors, including the verge arbor. Plates to movement measure 4.3" x 9". It is very uncommon to find a balloon clock of this size. Ht 24.5" [62cm]
