Shelf Portico
C.1890, Austrian, Royal Vienna porcelain portico clock with round 8-day movement.
Condition: This clock has been in storage; the gilding on the brass is gone and the brass is oxidized to brown. Left rear finial is a "close" replacement; hands are made to fit, chip at winding hole. The porcelain dial is signed "RP - Vienna", and has a pair of painted cherubs. The columns and top are adorned with ladies in classic gowns. The cobalt blue base retains original gold decoration in xlnt condition and appearance. The timepiece platform movement bears the Japy Freres trademark and is complete and sound, but would benefit from cleaning. Height 14.5 inches
C.1830 French, 4-pillar Empire, 8-day time/strike silk thread suspension mantel clock, with blue/white porcelain dial and grid pendulum.
Condition: Burl veneer case is in very nice condition with an old and possibly original finish. The Carpathian Elm veneer has some very small chips and minor age cracking, but is in otherwise fine condition. The dial is chipped around the winding arbors (chips touched up with blue paint) and in four places on the edge. The gold signature on the dial is half worn and unreadable. Gilt hands are original. Steel work on the pendulum has some surface rust, a solder repair, and the adjusting nut needs replacement. A relatively early and interesting clock that will respond to restoration.
C.1800, French, 4-Column, Empire clock, with large long running movement, pinwheel escapement and center seconds hand.
Condition: the dial is a replacement from a C.1910 German clock; the pendulum is an old Ellicott style from a Victorian clock. The movement has been changed from knife edge to suspension spring. Retains vernier beat adjustment as well as verge adjustment. Despite all the deficiencies, the movement is original to the case, and the patient detective may locate period parts to restore the clock. Height 20 inches
Mixed Lot: C.1870, E. Charon, French, sweep second pinwheel escapement, 8-day time/strike, now in a 4-pillar empire mantel clock.
Condition: Mahogany veneered case is in very nice condition with a little veneer loss on the base and a chip just above the left pillar. Movement is a pinwheel escapement with a quality vernier beat setter, but has an outer bezel and crystal, and is from an enclosed mantel clock and has cut outs in the rear of the bezel where straps used to me.
C.1900, Leyvand Freres Sieur et Cie, 8-day time/strike French 4-pillar empire mantel clock; open escapement.
Condition: Maple and rosewood veneered case with inlay is in generally good condition with original finish. Silvered brass is tarnished a little, and the bezel with some oxidation; original hands. Some gilding is absent from column capitals, bases and dial bezel. Gilt pendulum has wear and the steelwork has some surface rust. Movement is signed. Note one arm of verge broke and has been soldered; runs fine; note also second hand as well as visible escapement. Height 19.25 inches
Contemporary shelf clock,
signed only, "Schmid 8 Day". Front wind, running. Cute little clock, about 11 inches high.
French Empire mantle clock, ca 1885.
Overall in very nice condition, the wood is finished in ebony, with just enough bronze and light colored wood inlays to set it off perfectly. There is wood inlay and stripe inlay, top and base, and ripple like trim on the base and top, and the twisted wood columns with bronze capitals and bases are clean and bright, as is the bronze dial ring and pendulum ring. Excellent porcelain dial and porcelain RA insert. The case is 17.5 inches high, clean all over, a minimum of edge bumps and scrapes. There is no name on the 8 day round French movement that has an out-side count wheel.
C.1875, French, 4-Column Empire clock in crotch mahogany, 8-day time and strike.

C.1875, French, 4-Pillar Empire style mantel clock, the light rosewood case inlaid with satinwood marquetry.
Condition: This clock came from an old collection and the movement has not been cleaned for some time. There is a small bid of string inlay missing bottom right, but otherwise, this is among the best looking one of these we have seen. Height 19.5 inches
