Shelf or Mantel Pillar and Scroll

Norris North, Torrington, Conn., 30 hour, time and strike weight wood movement pillar & scroll shelf clock.

Refinished mahogany veneered case with nice appearance, but with a lot of restoration. The top and feet are restored. Door is replaced. Tablet is replaced. Movement support pieces are possible replacements. There are unexplained filled in slots on the side members that makeup the case. Painted dial has a couple cracks at the bottom third. Period hands and a nice set of period finials. Old weights. Dark label inside.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in an old finish has a small veneer repair on the base. The dial is an original Torrington dial, but was at one time was used with a different movement as evidenced by plugged winding holes. The movement is a nicely made copy of an original, probably by George Bruno. Tablet glass is old, but painting is replaced. Original top and feet. Period hands. Finials are modern. Clean label inside.

Merriman, Birge & Co., Bristol, Conn., 30 hour, weight wood movement with roller pinions reeded pilaster & scroll top shelf clock.

Refinished mahogany veneered case in nice condition. The scroll top and the cross strip between the top glass and mirror has been replaced. Finials, bottom tablet and mirror are replaced. Original wood dial has a couple small inpainted spots. Original hands.

Reproduction of a Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn., 30 hour, time and strike weight wood off-center movement pillar & scroll shelf clock.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered copy of an off-center pillar & scroll case. Some old parts may have been used to construct the case. Included are a set of reproduction Seth Thomas type finials. The key has been permanently secured inside of the escutcheon. It does not operate the lock, but serves as a door knob.

Samuel Terry Plymouth, Conn., 30 hour, time and strike weight wood movement pillar & scroll shelf clock.

Refinished mahogany veneered case has a veneer repair on the skirt, both scrolls have been repaired and an old chip on the front base molded edge. Original painted dial is in nice condition for its age. Hour hand is original, but period minute hand is a replacement. Both glasses are replaced. Original Samuel Terry movement. Clean label inside. Two period finials. Case still has original shipping pins.

Seth Thomas, Plymouth, Conn., & others, 30 hour, time, strike and alarm weight wood movement shelf clock.

A later conversion of a half column & splat shelf clock with the addition of a pillar & scroll top, feet and columns. A painted gold circle has been added to in the center of an otherwise nice dial. Tablet by Tom Moberg. Label inside the case is a copy. Alarm movement appears to be a Seth Thomas.

Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in an old finish has a veneer repair on the skirt, a repair to the left foot and repairs to the door and cross strip. Scrolls have been repaired and reveneered. Two holes in the restored dial have been plugged. The movement was made by Seth Thomas. Reverse painted tablet is replaced. Nice set of reproduction Seth Thomas type finials.

Wadsworth, Lounsbury & Turner, Litchfield, Conn., 30 hour, time and strike weight wood movement pillar & scroll shelf clock with a Riley Whiting label.

Mahogany veneered case in an old finish with a veneer repair on the bottom of the door and the center cross strip. The repaired scrolls and feet have been replaced. Tablet is not original and is cracked. This is probably a Wadsworth movement which has a replaced, but old backboard with a Whiting label. Original hands. Painted dial is very nice for its age. Finials are modern replacements. Ht 30 "

E. Terry & Sons, Plymouth, Conn., 30 hour, time and strike weight wood movement pillar & scroll shelf clock.

Mahogany veneered case in an old finish has a couple repairs on the door. The feet are replaced. Original top has a broken scroll tip, a veneer repair on the left front and one side return is missing. Tablet is replaced, but proper style. Dial looks original, but is in poor condition with flaking and darkened varnish covering. Period hour hand, replaced minute hand. Finials are modern, but proper type. Pendulum bob is period, but not pillar & scroll type. Partial, but readable Terry label inside.
