C.1880, New Haven Clock Co., Jeweler's regulator no. 3, in mahogany.
This clock is an example of how things vary from the catalogs. If you look at Tran Ly's 1997 book on New Haven, you will see the Regulator no. 2 with this crest and railing, but with a bust of Diana, while on the Regulator no. 3 you see a different railing, but with the deer head present on this one. Finally in the 1886 catalog, the clock has the pierced molding with the deer as we have here. In all cases, the 3 jar mercurial pendulum was an option. This clock has a lot of potential. It has been hanging in a low ceiling room, and the top removed. The main case was stripped and refinished, however the top never was, the top side trims are missing as are other small trim blocks and rosettes. This clock has been in daily use and maintained regularly; the mercury is included in a lexan jar, but will not be on display; the weight new but adequate. With original crank. Height 86" (bottom 2" trim missing). Would be $8000 if complete. $4000-5000
