"Mark Leavenworth & Co, Waterbury, Connecticut", ca 1829-1834. He first made shelf clocks in 1822. Among the earliest of Terry's competitors, he began with pillar and scroll cases. This transition case was the natural progression toward taller cases with 8 day movements. This one is 30 hour, wood movement. An almost perfect wood dial, very good label, one of the best 170 year old reverse painted glasses I have seen. 29 inch mahogany veneer case, original stenciled half columns and splat. Beautifully finished case may have one or two small pieces of veneer glued back on, but the case is almost perfect. Ivory escutcheon, key, and lock, probably a good replacement. This one is about as nice as they come. Reference - "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock", Second Edition, Revised, by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor, pages 160-162.
