Luman Watson, Cincinnati, Ohio, ca 1820's. Most of his shelf clocks were made in the 20's, tall clocks began about 1815. This stencil column clock is almost identical to those being made in Connecticut by Jerome and many others. Refer to the book, "Eli Terry and the Connecticut Shelf Clock, Second Edition Revised", by Kenneth D. Roberts and Snowden Taylor, pages 200-201. This case is minus any stenciling on the half columns or splat, and not sure there ever was any. There is a split in the backboard. Full and complete label, good 12 by 12 inch wood dial, and an iron bell. The 30 hour wood movement is held by mounting blocks and runs well. The top glass has original putty, bottom mirror too nice to be original. 35 inch mahogany veneer case is near perfect, although the case is clean of any finish. This rare clock needs only some minor restoration to put it in top condition.
