E. Howard "Figure Eight" or " Regulator No.6", ca 1991.
The largest of the Figure Eight regulators at 58 inches high. Great case made of black walnut by Wayne Cline, Bowling Green, Kentucky. No doubt Wayne is now America's premier clock maker, and his clocks number in the thousands. He always has a long waiting list. If you have never owned one of his clocks you wouldn't be disappointed if you bought one. Most of the contemporary clocks in this auction came from Lee Victory, a long time Tennessee collector. He bought old movements, pendulums, weights, etc. and had cases made to go around them. This movement is signed, "Howard & Davis, Boston, 1228". The brass bob is 8 inches, plain, with no circles. An old dial was used and repainted. The seconds bit hole was drilled for this movement. Case is signed "Wayne Cline, C1635291". Ly-American No.401.
