Russell and Jones Clock Co., Pittsfield, Mass., mantle clock, "Cincinnati", ca 1890.
This company was successor to the Terry Clock Co., and was only in business from 1890-1893. They no doubt observed the success of the Seth Thomas Company naming their mantle clocks for cities, because they also named most of their shelf clock line for cities. This walnut case is 21-1/2 inches high and no doubt all original and untouched except for theglass since it is 1/2 inch short at the bottom. There is a place in the backwhere the case is separating, insignificant but I mention it nonetheless. The movement is 8 day, striking a coil gong on the hours and alarming on thegongs brass base. Most of an old label remains on the back. Reference-Russell and Jones Clock Co. trade catalog of 1890. The catalog also has an extensive history of the company.
