New Haven hanging clock, the "Maywood", C. 1911. Two excellent labels, one on the back and a second inside on the bottom.
Original beat scale above the label. The label on the back states, "Maywood 8-Day Hour and Half Hour Strike-Manufactured for J. E. Martin, Knoxville, Tenn. By the new Haven Clock Company, new Haven, Conn. U.S.A.". The medium to dark oak case is 43.5" high, designs heavily etched on top, base, and sides. The case was lightly cleaned to get most of the smoke and grime off the nice looking, heavy, oak case. It was not refinished because a lot of black remains in the crevices and corners. A good finish of tongue oil or similar, has been applied, giving the wood a little sheen or life. The brass pendulum, wood stick, gong, everything clean, original, and very pleasing to the eye. If you want original finish, this one isn't for you. If you want clean, good looking, this one is for you. The dial was flaking badly so the previous owner put on a new paper dial. Glass and hands are original. 8 day movement strikes the hours and half hours on a coiled gong. Ly-New Haven #533.
