Ansonia Clock Co. parlor clock, "Monarch", C. 1880.
As usual in these complicated, designed clocks, the cases varied slightly year to year. This case (compared to pictures in the Ansonia books and other Monarch's I have had) differs in a few ways. Starting at the top, this one has a finial instead of the common urn. The bottom drawer has only a knob, no applied wood piece, no evidence of ever having anything different. Etchings all around the sides of the door are different. Dark black walnut case is 25" high, never refinished, excellent glass, French sash, original 2 piece paper dial, brass rings, 2 jar pendulum, and original label on the back. Burl walnut was used around the base and the top. The case being so dark doesn't do the burl walnut justice. 8 day, half hour strike, running. This clock has been in storage several years, probably should be serviced. Ly-Ansonia #1780.
