New Haven Clock Co. "Standard Time No. 2", C. 1886.
This is a very uncommon clock series, seldom found, especially the weight model. The great looking walnut case has been refinished, 2-piece zinc dial repainted, brass polished, and the one weight movement serviced and running. Another clock from storage may need some oil. The case is 46.5" high; catalogs say it is 45". Not an exceptionally fancy case, but enough cuts, etchings, and designs, to keep it from being plain. Wooden rod, brass ball, beat scale, movement and all the unusual support pieces under the movement, are all original. 8 day, 1 weight, screw pillars and stop work. The plates on the movement and the mounting system are as fancy as any I have seen. Swirls, designs on both plates, very attractive; mounts on a seat board with side rails similar to an OG or Pillar and Scroll case, and brass feet are also used under the movement to secure it to the case back. I notice there are a couple of extra screw holes in the dial ring, but I have deduced that the pieces got turned after the paint job. Ly-New Haven #567 doesn't indicate it was available in a weight model, but Ly-American #585 shows many more details and options available.
