Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. "Regulator No. 2", C. 1875. Near mint finish on the walnut veneered case.
It is medium brown with wonderful graining that most walnut provides. You will have to look long and hard to even convince yourself it is veneered, there are no repairs and none needed. The bezel and locking mechanism are solid and proper. It still has the original 12" paper dial with the name, "Wm. L. Gilbert Clock Co. Winstead Conn", and very legible. There has been no touchup or repairs to the dial. The catalogs do not show a second bit for this model. It is not an add on thing so I would think that Gilbert was using up the left over parts from the No. 1 Regulator. Also, it may have been an option offered when you ordered your clock. Hands are original, but again are like those on the No. 1. The movement is seat board mounted, solid plate, weight driven, and 8-day time only. It has maintaining power and Graham dead-beat escapement, and like all clocks in this collection, running just fine. The suitcase type weight is hidden behind a wood partition behind the pendulum. Pendulum bob, stick, glasses, are all original. The lower glass "Regulator" has had some rebacking and could use a little more. Other than some dial stains, this clock is near perfect. Ly-Gilbert #336.
