Waltham Clock Company, Waltham, Mass. Banjo, C. 1930, a reproduction of Simon Willard's early 1800's banjo.

23 October 2024
The 42" solid mahogany case retains the original finish, now crazed, has not suffered any indignities, and looks straight and original. The Washington and Mt.Vernon glasses are signed, and the large brass eagle is signed Waltham. It has an 8 day weight-driven movement, with the proper weight, pendulum of heavy brass, dial of ivory enamel, brass side rails and bezel, all original and very nice. The Willard banjo's were called Presentation Banjo's, because of the custom of giving them as wedding presents. This clock was a prize possession of a long time collector, came to us with many other fine early clocks. The good original Waltham's are regularly bringing over $2000 at eastern auctions. Ly-American #905.
