Welch, Spring & Co., Forrestville, Conn., U.S.A., "Gale Drop Calendar model No. 2", C. 1874-1879, in excellent original condition.

This model was also called the parliament model. We would have called the clock near perfect if not for about 10% loss of the black paper label. The gold leaf and black painted table is outstanding, the original paper dial has no loss or hurts other than normal aging. The polished rosewood case is as fine as we have had, and you know we have had some good ones, #343 in the July 2003 catalog sold for over $10,000 with several very competitive bidders offering up bids. This auction's clock is slightly better, particularily the paper dial. It is 8 day, 2 spring movement, has been serviced recently, is running, and the various calendar functions are working properly. Gale and other calendar collectors are familiar with the various functions of this complicated clock but for benefit of novices one dial tells the time(upper dial), moon age in days (right side dial), time of sunrise and sunset every seventh day (bottom dial), day of week (left dial), and day of month (large hand on the center arbor). It will also tell you the number of years since leap year, and when the current year is leap year. This is one of the most desirable and collectable of all calendar clocks. Ly-Welch, page 45-53.
