F. Kroeber Clock Co. mantle clock, "Versailles", C. 1895.
Three labels on the base, one with the names just mentioned; another that says, "Porcelene, Trade Mark", and another giving patent dates. Their patented Porcelene was nothing more than enamel on iron, offered in 7 colors. The case is 15 inches high and covered with cast metal ornaments. Signed movement and dial. No doubt a one up on Ansonia's black enameled iron clocks. This is a superb example of the model, completely original, clean, and running. Movement is 8 day, half hour gong strike, with their Eclipse movement with the pendulum locked onto a rod so it can only go east-west. This is the best example of this model I have seen. Shown in most of the company's trade catalogs, see 1895 as it has the most coverage. Ly-American, page 159 pictures the clock but has no particulars.
