New Haven Clock Co. "Admiral", ca 1903.
In the era of big clocks New Haven made this giant to compete with the Ansonia "General" and some of the big Waterbury wall clocks. This clock is 62 inches high, and in our humble opinion is the best looking clock New Haven made. It was made of Birds Eye Maple, is exceptionally clean, polished, and ready to hang and enjoy. The movement is one of New Haven's finest, a double spring, 30 day time only. It came to us from a discriminating collector of very fine clocks. You can tell it was well maintained and has lived a sheltered life. The 18 inch dial has been expertly painted, brass all polished, movement cleaned and regulated to keep very accurate time. It is impossible to describe the ebbs and flows of the wood around the outside of the case. This is a beautiful wall clock. Bob Schmitt sold one in his November 2002 auction for 5720 dollars. Ly-New Haven #539 & #544.
