Ansonia Clock Co. upscale mantle clock, the "King", ca 1880.
The clocks made in the 1880's were for the most part top quality, elaborate designs on glasses, ornaments, pendulums, and the best of woods. This original, way above average clock for its age, is made of black walnut and stands about 24 inches high. If you would say the top finial is not original I wouldn't argue, but it is awfully close to those pictured in catalogs. Note the metal lion's heads on the columns and the Minerva head on top. The movement is 8 day, strikes the half hours on a cathedral gong and alarms on a brass bell. The clock is running. A full label on the back should be protected as it is coming loose. After writing this and examining closely, I will not say the glass is positively original. Could be, but may not. Ly-Ansonia #1776-1777.
