The frame is rolled all around the out-side edge. A piece of glass is also over the inner section where the decorations are located. The designs inside are a zillion pieces of Mother of Pearl inlaid in wood. I notice a few small pieces missing but you have to study the designs before you pick it up. Under all that is an onyx dial, now with hairline cracks. As the dial is glued to a thin piece of wood I doubt the dial broke apart and was reglued. I think it is just hairlines. Large cartouche numerals on the onyx dial. Large, typical 8 day movement, springs enclosed in barrels. Strikes a coil gong. I tinkered with it enough to know it runs but you may have to put it in beat. You will want to patch some edge chips in the plaster and I would make sure the hanger is secure before you hang it. It worked OK for me, but before you hang it for good, check it out.
