J.C. Brown Clock Company manufactured for Daniel Pratt, Reading, Mass.
Daniel Pratt was a clock merchant in Reading, Massachusetts during the mid 19th Century. He often purchased movements for his clocks from the J.C. Brown Clock Manufacturing Company in nearby Bristol, Connecticut. This very attractive steeple clock was sold around 1860 and features a clean, recently serviced eight-day brass movement with a strike on the hours. The paper label inside the case is in flaked condition, but retains enough of the wording to clearly identify Daniel Pratt as the clock merchant. The dial is original to the clock and is painted on the old zinc. In the lower door of the clock case is an old etched glass depicting wheat sheaves. The photographs tell the story of this very attractive and well-maintained steeple clock at a price that is better than others due to our affiliation with one of the nation's leading authorities and collectors of antique American clocks. His continuing consignment to us at Old Timers makes us proud to be his unofficial partner in downsizing the extensive collection that he has in his lovely old Pennsylvania farm home. Height: 20 in.
