Eli Terry Sr. and his brother Samuel produced pillar and scroll, wood works clocks for only a limited number of years. Their label ELI AND SAMUEL TERRY is prized by collectors and not often found. This particular clock features unbroken scroll tips- another not-often found qualification! The reverse-painted lower door glass is old, with restorations and not original to this case. Try as I might, I found it difficult to photograph the lower glass without reflection from the gold leaf border. The gold IS excellent and uniform all over. The seeming discoloration in the photographs is a result of reflections from surrounding table tops, and other objects near the clock when we took the pictures. Inside the gold border is an interesting, primitive reverse-painted scene, probably added at some time after the clock was first produced. The brass finials are modern replacements. The feet appear to have been professionally replaced. The wood works has been serviced and runs well, striking the hours on a clear bell.
