Sharp Gothic doublke fusee steeple clock. Recently our inventory of clocks has included increasingly scarce and rare items. This desireable steeple clock by BOARDMAN AND WELLS of Bristol, Connecticut features a double fusee movement (see photograph)which provides more accurate timekeeping than an ordinary clock mechanism. The movement has been recently cleaned and professionally adjusted for proper operation. One of the tips on the cone finials is shorter and there are a few veneer chips off the bottom edge of the clock. Those 'hurts' plus flaking from the lower door glass transfer (see photograph) in no way diminishes the overall desireability of this particular clock...with its excellent fusee mechanism which was specially fitted into this case. There is no evidence that there was ever a maker's label. However, a charming merchant's card attached to the inside of the case case adds a note of interest and historical validity to the clock. In part, the printed advertising on this card reads: "H.Lusky. Citizens Loan Office. Money advanced on watches diamonds and various articles. WATCHMAKER AND JEWELER. A large stock of clocks and spectacles. 110 North College Street (near the public square), Nashville, Tennessee. A. Silberman, Watchmaker". This remarkable clock is on consignment from an old friend whose collection included only the more exceptional examples of each type.
