Chelsea Clock Co. tambour, "Babro No. 31", ca 1917-1923.
Large hand rubbed mahogany case is 22.5 inches wide, 10 inches high. Nothing plain about Chelsea cases, always very sleek and good looking. The Babro models were produced during wartime to compete with the volume of models offered by Seth Thomas and other makers. Silver dial is 5.5 inches with raised brass numerals, clean, will need no cleanup there. Movement in this clock is 8 day lever, striking hour and half hour gong. Bowed beveled glass in the brass sash, cutout brass back door with cloth covering. Clean as a pin inside and out. Factory numbers imprinted on the base, "31", and "91725". Clock striking properly when moving hands but not running at present. Movement is complete, clean, and should need only light service, probably oil. Ly-American, Volume 2, No. 262.
