Jerome and Co. New Haven, Conn. U.S.A.", printed on the label of this very rare wall clock, ca about 1850.
Most of the old label remains on the inside of the bottom door. Rare 30 day, brass, double spring movement by Hubbell. Unusual arrangement of the movement inside the case. It is mounted on a seat board, which is situated inside a box. The movement is clean, has been serviced and is running perfectly. The old zinc dial is still in very good condition to be so old. It is fastened to the case frame with 13 screws, and all holes are original. The gold paint showing around the dial may have been an addition after it left the factory. There has been some discussion around here about the gold, by those who have seen the clock. There is a white gesso or plaster like material under the gold, so my guess is there was always gold there. Your turn to guess. The original paper is covering the inside of the case. The old strips around the wavy glass were bad, so we replaced them with new walnut strips. The red oak case is 39.5 inches long, with superior wood grain placement, and has applied buttons and some etched designs, top and bottom.
