Briggs-E.N. Welch Rotary Pendulum clock, ca about 1870.
The movement is not signed and is a later, (Model II) with screws holding the plates. Model 1 plates were held with pins. You don't want a history lesson, but John Briggs never made a clock as far as anyone knows, although he did acquire two patents for rotary pendulum clocks. It is sometimes called the "Brown's Rotary". Speculation is that J.C.Brown was making this clock when Welch took over his bankrupt company. That aside, the clock is clean, original, has an original dome, original black base with paw feet and winding wheel below, and is in good running order. Movement and base are 7.5 inches high, with dome 8.5 inches high. Reference n NAWCC Bulletin, April 1978, page 99, "John C. Briggs and Rotary Pendulum Clocks" by Charles Terwilliger.
