Ansonia Clock Co. figure clock, "Denis Papin", ca 1894.
This model must be fairly rare as we have had requests in the past to find one for collectors. Here is a nice example. 8 day movement, striking a gong on half hours, running. Good two piece porcelain dial, open escapement, beveled glass. There is a faint hairline on the dial, hardly worth bringing up. Note the base is very much different from other Ansonia statue bases. Mural of Roman characters goes around three quarters of the black enameled iron base. In the very center is a collage of weapons. Case is 16.25 inches high, 19 inches wide, and has a Barbedienne finish we believe to be original. It would appear from the dark picture in the catalogs that Denis is holding a pen. Another picture on the same page shows he is not. Our Denis is not holding a pen in his right hand. Ly-Ansonia, page 165.
