C.1827, Samuel Abbott, Boston, Federal Mirror clock, 8-day timepiece with restrained weight on rod followers.

22 October 2024
Condition: the case has been re-gilded some time ago (maybe 50 years ago) and is mellowing gracefully, with some minor repairs. The original dial surface is intact; numerals and signature have been strengthened by a good artist. Movement appears original to the case; Abbott is known to have used both rectangular and piano movements in the mirror clocks, this one with arched cut outs in the plates. Upper tablet is restored, bottom mirror is new. Backboard has been painted black; no label. Laser cut hands have been poorly fit to the squares. Impressive; estimate reflects restorations. Ht 34.5" [88cm]
