22 October 2024
Condition: an attractively restored banjo clock from southern Mass. The old lower tablet with flaking black touched up from the rear. Nice vine pattern on throat tablet is excellent. Original dial has nice crazing (no signature apparent). Consigned by a fastidious collector from Mass who has run the clock steadily for the past few years. Has neat brass acorn on weight baffle for indicating plumb position. With an 1877 repair label for Geo Arnold. Also with an old hand written slip indicating that this clock belonged to Lyman D. Thurston of Leicester, Mass and hung in the Post Office of that town until his death in 1911. The US census of 1880 shows that Lyman was indeed the postmaster of Leicester. Height 29 inches [74cm]
