J.C. Brown & Co. Acorn Wall Clock,

ca 1850, painted tin dial marked Forestville Manufacturing Co./Bristol, Ct. U.S.A. with domed chapter ring in Roman with outer minute ring marked with ticks, every 5 minutes bold, brass time-only spring driven movement stamped Forestville MFG/Bristol, Ct., interior printed paper label reading Eight Day/Spring Time Piece,/Manufactured By J.C. Brown & Co.,/Bristol, Conn., door with very well done ca 1950's replacement tablet with landscape with river, sailboat, picnicking ladies and buildings, mahogany veneered case in highly stylized acorn form, in original varnish and gold painted finish, 3.3" x 12.8" x 28.25" high. For a similar clock by the same maker see Palmer, 1959: fig. 169 and Drepperd, 1947: 183. AUCTIONEER'S NOTE: Tablet is not a replacement, but rather the original period painting with minor touch-up, ca 5% retouch.
