ca 1820, poplar secondary wood with old, probably original, finish. Broken arch pediment with original turned wooden finials, chip-carved rosettes, 4 free-standing columns, and arched top door. Case waist has canted corners with lamb's tongues on top and bottom, chip carving, a scratch-beaded door, and sits upon elaborately shaped skirt. Repainted polychrome and gilt-decorated arched dial is signed L~Watson Cincinnati, and includes red flowers in the spandrels and red-breasted robin in the arch. Original wooden 30-hour movement, lacking bell, movement seat stamped ED (for Ephraim Downs). A very nice Watson. 92" high x 16.5" wide x 9.75" deep.Ex J.R.
