in red-stained birch with pine secondary wood. The hood has a fretwork crest, reeded plinths topped by brass finials, and a tombstone door; the case has a thumb-moulded tombstone door. The brass works have a polychrome-painted dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, flowers in the spandrels, a bird in the dial arch, and is signed David Williams New Port. Ca 1800; 96" high x 10" wide x 9.5" deep. David Williams (1769-1823) was a Quaker clockmaker in Newport and Providence. He apprenticed with Stephen Gould and Daniel Austin. The clock offered here was likely made when he was working at Duke and Queen Streets in Newport at the turn of the 19th century. Condition report Refinished, replaced crest, plinth, and finials, lacking feet.
