Silas B. Terry, {Terrysville, Conn}, C.1835, early brass works 8-day double deck, mahogany veneer shelf clock with carved splat and paw feet, 2-wt.
the case was refinished some time ago, and has a pleasant patina; the carved splat is recent, hand done, and with flaws, but looks the part; both glasses are new. Dial is fully repainted. An old piece of case back has been added to this back to strengthen it, as the movement is held in with 2 large screws and the original back had split. Terry made very few movements with this design; and the mov't can be confused with those by Philip Smith of NY {see June 2008 bulletin, article by Chris Bailey}. Paw feet are exceptional. Orig pendulum and wts. Note clock needs to be re-strung before operation; door latches are in a plastic bag. For a photo of this S. B. Terry movement see "The Contributions of Joseph Ives to Connecticut Clock Technology, 1810-1862", by Kenneth D. Roberts, REVISED 2nd edition, 1988, p. 187, fig. 94B (movement) and in a less attractive case fig. 94A. Note the American Clock and Watch museum has this identical S.B.Terry case on display, also less label. Width = 20", ht = 38"
