E. N. Welch Clock Co. hanging clock, "Simico", ca 1885.
The black walnut case is 45" high, has the original finish that is very dark and crusty. There are some tiny edge nicks as there are on all clocks and none of the previous owners has made an attempt to spruce up the clock to cover up anything to make it more appealing. The clock came to us with a large collection of fine clocks from a successful northeast collector. There are two labels on the back, a large one almost complete and a smaller one about half intact. This model has the "Verdi" brass movement, 8 day, striking half hours on a cup bell and hours on a Cathedral Bell. This is a nice straight clock except the glass was replaced. The pendulum ball and stick and everything else inside is original. There are a couple of holes in the dial pan put there by a lazy collector. The dial is original to this case and all holes line up. We note some big auction house get up to $3000 for this model. Ly-Welch No. 234.
