Another rare clock from Boston, Mass., sold by "Daniel Pratt's Son".
That is a slight variation in name from No. 13 above. Actually it was Daniel Pratt, Jr's son in law, Benjamin Boyce, who was the proprietor of this firm. The Pratt firms did not make clocks but bought movements, cases, and/or clocks from others and marketed them. This clock was made by the "Boston Clock Co., Boston", and that name is stamped on the 8 day, time only, weight movement. Boston Clock Co. in business from18881897, and later became Chelsea Clock Co. This 36" high cherry case is their "Regulator No. 3" model, weight descending down the center behind a wood baffle board. Pendulum tie down and correct brass bob and wood stick are in place. Chelsea type door latches on both doors. Good glasses in the doors, bottom is awfully nice, possibly has been rebacked. Excellent original painted dial with good Pratt signature, and has the correct hands. There was a repair to the top of the pendulum stick, the old iron weight is the correct type, and there is a provenance label on the door. The label could be the clock owners name or the owner's insurance company name. See reference at clock No. 13 above. Almost identical clock shown in LyAmerican Clocks, page 78.
