Welch, Spring and Co. "Baby Patti", ca 1889.
The company called it a, "Patty No. 2". It is only 10.5" high and extremely nice for its age. The original paper dial had a scratch between 6 and 7 and a repair was made to cover it. Not a great repair, but better than a new dial. The only other blemish is a veneer chip on the top back, smaller than a dime. All the finials, turnings, knobs on the four corners, three glasses, and the pendulum, are all original. The brass pendulum is signed, "WS and Co". On the back, most of the black label is still intact. It is very dark but legible. Nothing has been done to the case or internal parts. It has the original finish with some dirt in the corners. The dial is good but shows some grunge. The hands are correct, and there is good gold on the front glass. The 8 day, time only, double spring movement, is sound and running. The movements were made by the E. N. Welch Manufacturing Company and the cases were made by Solomon Spring. Inside on the backboard is black velvet or black flocking. Ly-Welch, pages 155-158.
