New Haven Clock Co. "Office No. 1", ca 1886.
Black walnut case is 42" high, all original and very nice with a couple of idiosyncrasies that do not really detract from the clock. I will explain those. The dial has 34 extra holes, so does the case. All the holes match up so the dial is original to the case. Second, the round wooden pendulum rod is impossible to hang on the back of the movement unless you remove the dial and movement. Someone cut a small opening in the back of the case so you could guide the suspension into its slot. Other than those two things it is very good. Brass weight, brass bob, brass pulley, door latches, brass bezel, and a pair of spade hands. The metal dial pan has been repainted. Both solid plates on the 8 day timepiece movement are mottled. The movement slides into an iron back plate then the thumb screws tightened to hold it. The movement is running. This clock and movement are pictured in Ly-New Haven, page 146.
