L.F. and W.W. Carter wall calendar, ca 1862-1868.
The brass movement in this clock is a two weight timepiece with solid plates, retaining power, and steel pivoted rolling pinion. A pair of correct iron weights are included. There is a better than average paper label inside that says in part, "B. B. Lewis' Patent / Perpetual Calendar / Made Expressly For / L.F. and W.W.Carter / Bristol, Conn.". The green label over the calendar movement says in part, "Lewis' Perpetual Calendar / Manufactured By / E. Burwell, Bristol, Conn.". The very nice rosewood veneered case is 30.5" high, bezels are grain painted to match the veneer. Key lock on the lower door, lock is functional, key included. Painted metal dials are original, top is the better, with a few flakes touched up. Bottom dial is flaking much worse, touchup will probably not work on it. All the hands, pendulum, and glasses are probably original to the clock. The clock and movement is pictured in Ly-Calendar, page 41.
