Ansonia Clock Co. crystal regulator, "Symbol Extra", ca 1894.
They made four models of the Symbol, this being the last, and each were significantly different. This solid metal case has a gilt finish, it stands 15.5" high, is polished, and has beveled glasses on the front and sides. It has a French sash and a porcelain dial. There are two corner chips on the glasses. The back of this model is solid metal, where most crystal regulators have a beveled glass. The standing coil gong is in front of the fancy pendulum bob. The fancy bob has a ladies bust cast on it. The dial surround is very elaborate and was not used on more than a couple of Ansonia clocks such as the Monarch and Broadway, both wood cased clocks. This movement is 8 day, signed, running, and striking the standing gong on half hours and hours. LyAnsonia No. 279.
