Repeating Brass Clocks / Made and Sold by / Brewster and Ingrahams, / Bristol, Conn., copied from the near perfect label in this rare clock, ca 1846.
It is pictured and described in the NAWCC Bulletin, August 1983, page 428-429, and is described there, "8 day repeating brass clock with brass back plate movement without cast iron cups or spring wells". The heavy movement plate is signed, has very thick large springs and an unusual lyre shaped pendulum hanger. Strikes hours on a coil gong attached to a brass gong base, also with a nice brass pendulum bob. The silver dial plate with attached silver dial ring is unlike any I have seen before, so I will have to assume this collector/craftsman made the dial. Top glass with original putty, bottom with old wood strips. Cannot vouch for the glass. 20" rosewood veneered case with cone finials, all very nice, one finial tip slightly shorter. If I could say the dial was correct this would be a keeper. Provenance in the clock case, an NAWCC Mart ad by Tran Duy Ly, dated 1975. He said this clock sold for $600. Tran was not advertising any of his books but was selling a 1909-1910 Seth Thomas Clock Catalog for $6. He offered a Seth Thomas No. 3 Regulator for $750.
