Birge, Mallory and Co. / Bristol, Conn., column and splat, Empire style triple deck clock, ca 1840.
Eight day strap brass movement with extended side arm, seat board mounted, strikes a coil gong. The movement is signed, "B M and Co.". Almost a complete paper label inside. There is a good wood dial, period hands and pendulum bob, and a pair of period 8 day iron weights. All three glasses are replacements and the top door is not all original. The age of the wood, hinges, etc. almost fooled me until I noticed there was no lock on the top door. Some very good cabinet maker would have fooled me if not for the lock. The bottom door has a working lock and brass escutcheon, but no key. Full turned columns, turned ball feet, and a very nice carved crown on top. The returns and caps are good and it has the original metal pulley covers for the top. The mahogany veneered case is 38" high, clean, and overall in very nice condition. A great early clock for this minimum.
