George B. Owen and Company, black walnut mantle clock, "Fortuna", ca 1878.
Anonymous (not verified)
24 October 2024
His clocks generally used movements made by the Gilbert Clock Company. This case is 24" high and appears to be all original and complete including the top finial. There are some carvings and etched designs over the case. The etched glass was one of Owens trademarks, and this original glass is held in the door with the original putty. The pendulum is correct, same with the nickeled bell, paper dial, and brass dial pan. The only black mark on the clock would be the extra holes around the dial pan and dial board. 8 day movement is running and striking. See "Illustrated Catalogue of Geo. B. Owen and Co. / 1878", page 14.
