E. Howard and Co. Boston, No. 70 Regulator, ca 1880.
This looks to be a very straight clock, movement signed, "E. Howard and Co. Boston, No. 70", and the weight stamped "70". The damascened brass pendulum bob, wood stick, pendulum tie down, baffle board, and door latches, all are factory stock and came with this clock. Both glasses are original but the bottom glass has a few small flakes. I want to call the 34" case mahogany, but the more I look at it I am not sure. Could it be made of red oak? The color is mahogany, the grain is more like oak. The color has not been altered, it has always been that shade of red. Original signed dial, signature faded only slightly, chips only around the screws, and the hands are correct. A very nice example, not perfect by any means, but has always been in good surroundings and well maintained. Ly-American Clocks, No. 427.
