French, Love and Time, Bronze and Marble mantle clock, depicting Father time or Chronos with his scythe, sitting in a boat, steered by the cherubic Amor, and with a quality movement by Vincenti (1855 award medallion), the bronze boat and "water" mounted to a well figured piece of yellow / black striped marble, the whole supported on 4 large paw feet, c1875. except that the scythe has become loose/separated from Chronos, clock is in overall excellent original condition. This model was made from around 1814 to about 1890, and examples can be found in several reference books, notably Elke Nieh,ser's book titled "French Bronze Clocks", page 43. Other examples can be found on the internet. The well made gong strike movement retains a perfect porcelain dial and original moon hands. In addition to the Vincenti medallion, it bears the imprint of the importer "A-1" and #7173. A very heavy item requiring special packing for shipment. Width = 21" Ht 21"
