Self-Winding Clock Co. large brass and wood public gallery clock, c1925
The consigner reports that this heavy patriotic case was in the Massachusetts Statehouse. The thick cast front and sides are brass, attached to a wood backboard. Note that the patina is darker than appears in the photo. Some decorative ring is missing from the dial center, since we see three empty holes and the trace of a circle. The signed movement, No. 27069, clearly has not been used in some time, and we have not attempted to connect dry cells to it. The pendulum stick is broken and the bob is now absent. When restored, this will be an imposing historical time piece. As a further note, this model was offered in Self-Winding trade catalogs. It was the "Massachusetts" model and shown in LY, American Clocks Vol. 2 p. 271. The one in Ly has different hands, but I'm sure the hands are correct on this one in the sale. Ht 25"
