Joseph Ives, Bristol, Conn., 8-day time/strike gilt Empire timepiece, with damage and restorations, C.1818, and with later movement.

At first we though this was a reproduction, but Chris Bailey has seen several and is confident the frame and case are period, with some sanding and shellacking where uncalled for. Note with the lot is a 70 year old foto showing that the clock at one time had the original Ives weight driven movement. Now with spring driven long drop movement, and the iron dial re-drilled to fit the existing movt. [note in foto, orig winding holes are intact]. Finally, the original reverse painted tablet in the foto is BROKEN, now included loose with the case. A good project for someone. Ht 43"
