Spencer, Hotchkiss & Co., Salem Bridge, (Naugatuck), Conn., 8 day, time and strike, weight Salem Bridge movement shelf clock. c1830
Mahogany and mahogany veneered case in very nice condition in an old and possibly original finish. Mirror is a replacement. Original wood dial is slightly soiled but is otherwise nice condition. A very nicely carved original crest. Pulleys are original. Minute hand is a possible replacement as the minute hand on these clocks generally didn't have a tail. Hour hand is original. Nice label inside case. The door to this clock is suspect as it is made of solid mahogany rather than a simple veneered pine and the applied moldings are not typical, but is very nicely made and the color blends very well with the rest of case. The stretchers behind the dial have been moved from their original positions, but the dial is proper for this clock and may have been done at the factory. Ht 32"
