Simon Willard & Son, Boston, Mass., banjo wall clock, 8 day, time, bell strike and alarm, two weight driven movement in a mahogany case with reverse painted throat and lower tablets and painted metal dial, c1828
the case retains its original finish with minor age cracks in the half round molding on the throat panel. The original painted dial has some minor loss at the mounting pins. The signature on the dial appears to be authentic as the age cracks in the paint are reflected in the signature, however some areas strengthened. The hands are original. The lower glass is a later replacement done on old glass by Tom Moberg. The old broken glass has been taped and included. The angular glue blocks for the tablets are replaced. The movement is mounted to the case with two large screws through the backboard and is on a thick spacer which has always been there. The old side arms and finial are probably a little later. This same clock sold for $6500 plus 15% buyer's premium in our May 15th & 16th, 2010 sale. Ht 29 1/2"
