E. Howard & Co., Boston, "Regulator No. 12" wall clock, in original grained cherry case, now less bottom trim molding, and with a stand that allows it to be used as a floor clock, c1875
a simple molding may be restored to the bottom to keep it a wall clock, or it may be used with the later base. The original glass jar for the pendulum is gone, replaced with a red brass cylinder. There is no known source for this glass jar. Mirror in case back trim has been replaced. The top bezel had separated a bit and was filled and sanded rather than being carefully turned. Other than these items the clock is basically original, and will respond to restoration. This is one of Howard's finest movements, complete, sound and properly signed; dead beat escapement and maintaining power. The original flat iron weight descends down the right side of the case, suspended from original pulley; weight hidden by a baffle which was removed for the photo. Also with original beat scale and hands. Original dial is excellent. We sold a cousin to this clock in 2008 for $56,000. Ht in Original = 57", overall on base = 73"
