French, from Guilmet's Industrial Series of novelty clocks, the STEAM HAMMER, where the vertical hammer is a part of the complex pendulum, c1881. this clock is not running, & will need parts making. The adjustable "hammer & anvil" linkage is present, plus the long suspension wires and pendulum. What is missing is the 3-point "mystery" suspension. See detail photo showing missing suspension on right side of image. Bell and retainer nut are missing.
