the case retains its original finish nicely rubbed down. The dial has some restoration. The gong base appears to be a period replacement. The minute hand may be a replacement. The period weights are unusual rectangular 30 hours, weights. Silas' father, Eli Terry Sr. was granted his last patent in 1845 for a balance escapement movement with a very large balance wheel, which Silas then put into production. Doug Shaffer bought this clock very late in his collecting career from his old friend Rose Brandt. Ht 27 3/4"
